In 2025, we celebrate the 140th anniversary of Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz's birth and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the artist's one-person Portrait Firm S. I. Witkiewicz. On this occasion, we present an exceptional collector's coin that combines the artistry of minting with the depth of Witkacy's creative work. This coin pays homage to his 1927 work The Deception of Woman' which is a significant element of Polish artistic heritage.
 
This extraordinary collector's coin is made of sterling silver (Ag 999.9), weighs 1 ounce, and has a face value of 1 dollar (Niue). Created in 1927, the work features an unconventional joint portrait of the artist and his model, Maryla Grossmanowa. The wealthy factory owner and antiquarian's wife is depicted reclining comfortably, gazing directly at the viewer, with a cat at her feet. Beside her, we see Witkacy himself, captured while working on her portrait, further emphasizing the composition's uniqueness.
 
The limited mintage is only 500 pieces worldwide, making this release a true rarity for collectors and art enthusiasts. On the coin's reverse, using UV printing, the image of 'The Falsification of Woman' is faithfully reproduced. The color scheme, characteristic of Witkacy's work, is meticulously captured, portraying both the intense colors and details of the figures. Maryla Grossmanowa is depicted in a vivid pose, with Witkacy leaning over the canvas, a rare example of a 'double portrait' in a single work.
 
The obverse of the coin features a multiple portrait, one of the most recognizable photographic images of Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz. The photo was taken in Petrograd, most likely between early March and late April 1917, during a period when photographing oneself in mirror cabinets was fashionable, allowing for a multiple reflection effect. In this setting, Witkiewicz is captured sitting in the military uniform of the Pavlovsky Life Guards Regiment. With a solemn expression, he rests at a small table, with four different versions of his image reflected in the mirrors. Each reflection shows him in a slightly different way, emphasizing the illusion of multiple presence.
 
The artist himself, facing away from the camera, remains a mysterious, multi-dimensional figure – much like in his creative works. Below, in a separate part of the obverse, is the emblem of the issuer – Niue – along with information about the denomination (1 DOLLAR), year of issue (2025), weight (1 oz), and silver fineness (Ag 999.9).
