Spock's alien origins reinvented a community in Alberta, while his salute to "live long and prosper" became one of the most iconic gestures of the 20th century.
 
Portrayed by actor Leonard Nimoy, the half-Vulcan, half-human Spock is renowned for his steadfast adherence to logic over "illogical" emotional responses. Despite this, few could deny the strong bonds of friendship and mutual respect that exist between the ship's captain and his first officer,whose insight and analytical mind are often invaluable. Spock is also known for his ability to subdue a would-be attacker with a simple Vulcan nerve pinch; but when faced with a physical threat to the shipor his crewmates, Spock won't shy away from drawing his phaser, either, if necessary.
 
The standard-issue weapon for Starfleet personnel, the phaser comes in a range of sizes: there's a type 1, which is easy to conceal; the hand-held type 2, with a longer pistol grip; and the phaser rifle, or type 3. The order to "set phasers to stun" demonstrates that a phaser's different settings made it a complex weapon; it also proved to be a powerful tool in an emergency, when it could be used to cutthrough walls, blast a tunnel or simply heat up stones to generate heat.

Born in 2230 to a human teacher named Amanda Grayson and the Vulcan diplomat Sarek, Spock's full name is said to be unpronounceable to Humans.
In American Sign Language, the Vulcan salute is the sign for "Star Trek."
Spock's softer side is shown through his love for art, poetry and music, even playing the Vulcan lute while Uhura sings in the episode Charlie X.
The telepathic Vulcan mind meld made its first appearance in the 1966 episode Dagger of the Mind, when Spock used it to learn the truth about theexperimental neural therapy used at a penal colony.
Introduced in the 1966 episode Enemy Within, the Vulcan nerve pinch was also conceived by Nimoy, who felt the non-violent manoeuvre was fitting for the logic-driven character.
While powerful, phasers had no effect on certain alloys or lifeforms such as the cloud creature featured in the episode Obsession.
Hand phasers could be lethal if made to overload. In the episode The Conscience of the King,
an attempt was made on Kirk's life by placing an overloading phaser in his quarters.
