1987 Canadian $1 Common Loon/First Year of Issue Proof Dollar Coin-case
A proof striking of the loon dollar was issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1987 commemorating the first year of issue. The new circulating dollar coin was released in July 1987 and replaces the larger nickel dollar.

The design is the work of Robert-Ralph Carmichael of Ontario and depicts a common loon.
